When a person dies somebody has to deal with their "estate" (money, property and possessions) by:
- collecting in the assets
- paying any debts; and
- sharing out the estate between the people who are entitled to it.
If, however, you have not made a will the state directs who inherits. This could result in some relatives, friends and favourite charities receiving nothing. It is particularly important to make a will if you are not married to your partner, because the law does not automatically recognise partners as having the same rights as husbands and wives.
As well as a comprehensive Will making service we can also provide advice on Inheritance Tax Planning, Trusts, Administration of Estates, Lasting Powers of Attorney and the Court of Protection, specialist advice for elderly clients, including advice on state benefits and support in the community and entitlement as to funding for nursing care.
